Shop / gransfors bruks mini hatchet
Crafted in Germany, the Rheinland Hatchet excels in a variety of tasks, such as limbing branches, creating kindling, carving, and other light and precise cutting work. The Rheinland pattern, a traditional German wide-bit blade, is exceptionally well-suited for these cutting applications. These hatchets, handmade in Wuppertal, Germany, are named after the famous Rhein River Valley in the region.
The hatchet's head, weighing 1-1/4 lb and with a total length of 14 inches and a total weight of 1-3/4 lb, is forged individually by hand from German C50 high-grade carbon steel using the open-face drop forging process. In this process, the blacksmith uses tongs to hold and shape the hot steel as a drop hammer falls repeatedly onto it, resulting in a durable and high-quality axe head.
The sustainably sourced grade A American hickory handle is hand-finished with a linseed oil finish and sanded to 150 grit, providing a comfortable and smooth grip. The grain orientation and density of the handle are carefully selected to ensure optimal performance and durability.
Each Helko Werk camping axe and hatchet comes with a vegetable-tanned premium leather sheath to protect the blade and head, as well as a 1oz Axe Guard protective oil to help maintain the steel and prevent rust over time.
The Rheinland Hatchet's exceptional craftsmanship and performance make it a reliable tool for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and anyone in need of a versatile and high-quality cutting implement. The combination of the German-made C50 high-carbon steel head and the American hickory handle, along with the included leather sheath and protective oil, make this hatchet a standout choice for any outdoor or woodworking application.
